About GROUND BRANCH
GROUND BRANCH rejects the trend of arcade-style twitch shooters to revive the uncompromising lethal realism of the early tactical genre. Developed by BlackFoot Studios and MicroProse Software, the game abandons pre-set classes and unlockable progression in favor of total equipment agency from the start. The GROUND BRANCH release date is set for July 16, 2026, when it will launch on PC to challenge players who value preparation over reflexes.
The defining system here is the True First-Person perspective, which eliminates the disconnect between what you see and where your character exists in the world. Unlike standard shooters where bullets often fly from your eyes, projectiles in this simulation originate strictly from the weapon's muzzle. This creates a mechanical hurdle known as height-over-bore, forcing you to account for the physical space between your optic and your barrel when firing from behind low cover or in tight corridors. If your boots are visible from beneath a vehicle, they are a valid target; if your long-barreled rifle hits a door frame, your character will physically pull the weapon back, leaving you momentarily defenseless.
Tactical Depth and the July 16, 2026 Release Date
Customization serves a functional purpose rather than an aesthetic one, with every pouch and attachment placement affecting your operational capacity. You can position a scope anywhere along a rail, but placing it too far forward will restrict your sight picture, while overloading a vest with extra magazines will trigger the stamina and encumbrance system to sluggishly drain your mobility. This granular control extends to the 8-player co-op and 8v8 adversarial modes, where 3D positional VOIP and team radios are the primary tools for survival. It is a game designed for those who want to spend twenty minutes in a killhouse practicing room clears before a single shot is fired in the field.
The primary risk for the title is whether its commitment to realism might alienate players accustomed to modern quality-of-life conveniences, as the lack of a traditional HUD and the presence of friendly fire make for a steep learning curve. Whether the deliberate pace can maintain tension during the long stretches of silence between firefights is the central test for the developer's vision. For veterans of the original Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon entries who feel the genre has moved too far toward the mainstream, this is a clear wishlist priority for its 2026 arrival. If you prefer high-speed movement and forgiving health pools, this will likely be a skip.
